Hey all, I just finished building my first PC. Here's what I have:

i7 2600k
Gigabyte P67A-UD7-B3
G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series DDR3 1600MHz 2X4GB
2 EVGA GTX 580 Superclocked
Western Digital WD1002FAEX Caviar Black 1T Hard Drive
Corsair Performance 3 Series 128GB
Corsair CMPSU-1200AX
COOLER MASTER Hyper 212 Plus
HAF 932

Here's my problem/s: I booted the PC for the first time, I got the 1 beep like I'm supposed to but most of the time when it reaches the GA logo screen it shuts down and restarts on its own. Then its fine. Also when I hit the reset button the PC shuts down completely for a second then restarts -> 1 time it restarted without completely shutting down. What could be causing this?

Also I get something like a 'Boot Failure Insert Media and press Enter' message but I think this is normal if no OS is set up, right?

Ok first of all it is normal for the pc to shut down and restart after hitting the reset button. The boot disk failure will go away once you install an os. I'm not sure what would cause the first symptom of it restarting when you hit the power during the boot process but one of our team mates might have a better idea. Try the bench test and see if it does that, the link is in my sig. Also check the temps in bios to see if its over heating and make sure the heat sink and fan on the cpu is securly attached.

Temps are normal(?) around 26-27 degrees.

At this point I can't justify taking everything apart to bench test without exploring some other options first...

Could it be a memory problem? I have 2 4GB sticks in 2nd and 4th channel because the heatsink prevents me from using the 1st & 3rd channels but I don't think that would be the issue. Memory errors perhaps?

There is a BIOS update available but I haven't attempted to flash it yet.

I noticed in the BIO's that the RAM is running at 1333Mhz 9-9-9-24 even though it should be 1600Mzh 7-8-7-24 1.6V(forgot to check V listed in BIO's). Could this be the problem? I also checked the RAM against the supported RAM list on Gigabyte website and it wasn't on there. This RAM is 'Designed for Intel Sandy Bridge LGA 1155 processors and the P67 platforms' according to the package...

gonna try installing new BIO's version but I can't find a list of fixes for the update....

I also went out and returned memory I had and bought some thats on the GA website 'supported memory list' for UD7-B3.

G.SKILL F3-12800CL7D-8GBRH Ripjaws PC3-12800 8GB 2X4GB DDR3-1600 CL7-8-7-24 1.6V Memory Kit

installed the latest BIOS, installed new RAM and removed one GPU. Problem still there but self restart only happened a couple of times on 5 or 6 power cycles. No idea....:4-dontkno

New RAM also listed in BIOS as 1333MHz 9-9-9-24 instead of spec'd 1600MHz 7-8-7-24.:Thinkingo

Oh btw, no txt in d/load. Seems odd but true. I d/loaded from Gigabyte website...

Ok got it Tyree/Dai, seems weird to me but I trust in your expertise...

So, should I go ahead and install the OS even though I still have that restart prob?

I would get the problems sorted before attempting to install an OS.

I had a friend that had an issue with his pc the problem was too much ram. If my understanding is correct the amount of ram the pc can run is based on the OS type since there is no OS it can't read the ram properly? This could be wrong but it is what my friend encountered. The pc wouldn't even start up the ram was either bad or it was too much ram. Try using only 1 stick of ram to see if that solves your problem.

Then once you have your OS Installed put the rest of the ram in

Finally had some time to sit down and resolve the issue. The reboot issue was tied to using the reset button. I installed the OS without a problem and everything runs as it should. I haven't used the reset since I installed the OS and the shutdown/restart at the post screen hasn't happened in 30-40 system shutdowns. I had a ***** of a time getting my system to detect both graphics card but I finally got it to after 4 hours of trying but I guess that's another story.....thanks for all your suggestions!

Now to stress test, overclock and benchmark.
