alright keep us posted. I really is amazing how one .dll can (pardon my french) totally F*** up a perfectly good computer. That is just one more reason Mac OS is superior...sure it's harder to program, but everything is self contained...you have like 50 control panels TOPS... and that takes care of all the configuration... no little .vxd or .dll to get corrupted, that is about all I miss from my Mac... but then again my Macs were both a good 3 years old when I got them so they were far from screaming fast.

lol

im back.lol

i WILL NOT QUIT until this is either fixed, or lying outside my window in many many peices.lol

so far nothing has worked.
anyone have any new ideas?

I thought of trying to figure out which drivers i have that are for my onboard video, and deleting them.
Is that a good idea?

Im starting to wonder if the problem is something completely different.

If you all are out of ideas, can you refer me to someone?

well, i talked to the cards manufatcurer support again.
this is the ideas they gave me this time:

-4in1 chipset drivers......................?????what are they talking about?

-3Dmark2001 - they said this would test my card.

I wish help was just a phone call away:no:

Okay from my understanding of computers, .dll files are just modules of code the get referenced by a program that basically have predeveloped routines in them, which saves a lot of typing.
.inf files are drivers they are used by the operating system to control the hardware. The 4in1 drivers are the fact that VIA... the chipset for most mainstream motherboards had some problems with their support of AGP and just video cards in general....

What kind of connection do you have to the internet?
How fast is your processor?
How much RAM do you have, and what kind is it?

okay... so you can handle going to www.updates.com and downloading and installing everything it says to.
Then going to the windows update site and downloading and installing everything it says to.

I'll surf around for a link to the Via 4in1 drivers. Let me know what 3dmark2001 say about your card.

Ummmm... who are you getting tech support from.... because I'm pretty sure the 4in1 drivers only apply to VIA chipsets, but you have an intel810 chipset.... so if it's gigabyte that you got your support from I suggest you call them back and make sure you get someone different.

Okay, they are allowed to mess up on the stats of your motherboard. You don't have a VIA chipset, you have an Intel810... just in case on of the tech support people ask you.

scully hang in there dude we're with ya......:D

See if you can find out which version this motherboard is!

Either by looking on the box if you have it or looking at the board itself with a flashlight.

It should say ver 1.5 or ver 2.0....see if you can find it....

ok, thanks speedo/val.
ill hang in there if you will.lol

i will check the motherboard tonight.

1 thing to tell you though, I talked to Hercules support again, and told them what that error said. The guy said i should send the card in and get a replacement.
Now, i really dont want to do that unless i was convinced the actual card is the problem.

Should i send it back?

ok, Ill give this a shot :)

First , lets make sure that the PCI card is in fact the active one and working correctly, go into your Device Manager under Display Adapters -- how many devices are listed and do any of them have exclamation or question marks next to them?..

Also your pagefile is HUGE it should not be that big its a waste of space and will lead to performance problems, you have enough RAM that, that thing should be around 400-450mb at max, is Windows managing it automatically or did you set it yourself?

a pagefile is another name for a swap file, basically a file windows uses as if it were ram, except its slower & less secure than physical ram. Not to mention according to that file I saw its taking up nearly 2gb of your hard drive space.

You can change the swapfile settings in Control Panel > System > in Me I thinks its under the advanced tab somewhere, It will say if the user has defined a setting or if Windows is managing it itself before you change it let me know what it says as far as that goes.

Just a shot in the dark. Not sure if this has been mention, but windows has a nasty habit of reloading the same driver and creating multiable devices. Try going into safe mode and seeing if there are mutliable copies of the video card there. If so remove them all, then re-install when it comes back up in normal mode.
