Yo Val

The problem he has is not being able to disable his onboard video.

And if he can't do that I don't have any idea how he is going to get the other video card working.....

I'm still poking through the online manual they threw together.... I haven't found much, and I really do hate scrolling through pages and pages of half filled pages becaus someone was too lazy to format the newly scanned text. Yes it is text, because you can search through it, so they don't even have the excuse that they are image files.

actually

i am not sure its the video card not working.

if i go to the properties (from desktop) it does say the new card is the one being used.
My problem is that there are some games that just dont work.
Ghost recon being one of them.

here are some examples of how games run on my comp:

Ghost Recon:
If i have just restarted my computer, i can start the game, play a mission etc.., but as soon as i shut down the game, and try to start it again, it doesnt work. The screen is glitching, choppy, and just plain sucks. The sound is perfectly fine.

NHL 2001:
I can play this game, but it is extremely choppy. I get scored on before i even realize a shot has been taken.lol

Delta Force 2:
This game runs fine, although it gets very very choppy unless i stay at 640x480 resolution.

also,
sometimes with ghost recon, the problems are different in a way.
Sometimes, instead of glitching and lines all over the place, the screen is clear, but it seems like it only refreshes once every 5 seconds.
In this case, i dont even get past the main menu because it takes 10 minutes too just get the cursor on the right button.lol

When the screen is glitching or whatever, in that case there are also times that i cant see even good enough to make a choice on the main menu.

anyways, ill have all that info soon.

What do you think speedo... newest drivers, a M$ update, and maybe the new version of DirectX? Then give it another shot.... I still can't find any way of disabling the onboard video short of getting a pair of pliers and ripping the blasted thing off.

ok

i installed the stuff you said and its all set.
heres the info you wanted (what i could get anyway)

model GA 6wmm7
model version - 4.1
graphics card manufacturer/model name- couldnt see on the board. (but this would be intel810 right?)
video ram - 4mb (onboard) (32mb new card)
PC RAM 320mb
driver version(graphicsonboard)-4.13.01.3004

direct X - 8.1

ps. when i restart, at the first black screen where i am supposed to see the bios version or whatever, it says 2.15. But its for the new card, not the onboard.

also, incase i didnt say it already,
in my device manager, i have the new card uner display adapters, an everything seems ok with it.
I also have the intel graphics controller under display adapters. ( i have put a check in "disable in hardware" for the intel. And it has a red X to the left of it.) But if i try to remove it, it will just re-install next time i start my comp.

just a note:

if I go to my device manager, and go to the properties of the Intel controller, then to resources, and to configure manually, this is what it says under "conlicts"

Memory Range 00000000 - 03FFFFFF used by:
3D Prophet 4000XT PCI
Memory Range 00000000 - 03FFFFFF used by:
System board extension for ACPI BIOS
Memory Range 00000000 - 0007FFFF used b

I have been thru the manual a few times myself and had no luck.

It sounds like he has done everything that can be done in his situation....

Unless someone comes up with a brainstorm....:D

yeah... we send in his info to the blasted manufacturer's tech support and make them tell us how to disable it. That's about all your gonna get out of me in the way of a brainstorm.... this'd be a lot easier if I could see the board and look for the jumper, because if it's not in the BIOS then it has to be a jumper.... they wouldn't leave you stuck with a 4 Mb video card.... would they?

Okay that conflict you saw when you went to view the onboard video... that is an IRQ conflict... it is basically the paging system of the motherboard for lack of a better explanation.... The problem is that the on board and the new one are "fighting" for things to do. When you tell the computer to do something both the video card try to handle it and get in each others way... causing the problem you have right now.

Not without a BIOS reprogram, a whole lot of troubleshooting, technical expertise, and a GOOD soldering iron... so no pliers isn't an option... I knew you were kidding I just figured I'd respond back.

i just looked in my system info, and looked at IRQ's/conflicts.

THERE are atleast 10 of them and they all relate to intel, the new card, or PCI.
