here's my problem.

i installed a 32mb Hercules Prohet 4000 (PIC) vid card into my machine, but i have no idea what .inf files to delete for my old onboard video, nor do i know if that is causing the problem. After i instal the new card and boot up, it says it found new hardware and finds the software for it ect...
But, it does it twice because it keeps finding and reinstalling the software for my old onboard video too.

heres some info, let me know if you need more

windows ME
Gygabyte - GA-6WMM7 motherboard w/intel 810 chipset.
BIOS is set to add-on as primary

please help.
ill be checking this post every 15 minutes

thanks for the reply

but unfortunately, i cannot disable my onboard video in BIOS. I ve looked many times in the past week.lol
I have tried checking the box "disable in this hardware profile" in the device manager, but that doesnt work either.

Could it be the .inf files??
how do i find out which ones to delete?

this is getting frustrating, i cant play any of the newer games.

btw, this may interest or give you some idea or something.

When i start my pc up and start Ghost Recon, i can play a mission with no problems sometimes. But if i close Ghost recon, and then open it again, the problems start. Even on the main menu screen theres lines all over the place.
If and when i finally get in the game, i cant see anything unless i look straight down, or straight up. weird huh.

my device manager shows the prohet video card, and a GA compatible display adapter under other devices, and it has a yellow question mark beside it

please help me.

actually

i am not sure its the video card not working.

if i go to the properties (from desktop) it does say the new card is the one being used.
My problem is that there are some games that just dont work.
Ghost recon being one of them.

here are some examples of how games run on my comp:

Ghost Recon:
If i have just restarted my computer, i can start the game, play a mission etc.., but as soon as i shut down the game, and try to start it again, it doesnt work. The screen is glitching, choppy, and just plain sucks. The sound is perfectly fine.

NHL 2001:
I can play this game, but it is extremely choppy. I get scored on before i even realize a shot has been taken.lol

Delta Force 2:
This game runs fine, although it gets very very choppy unless i stay at 640x480 resolution.

also,
sometimes with ghost recon, the problems are different in a way.
Sometimes, instead of glitching and lines all over the place, the screen is clear, but it seems like it only refreshes once every 5 seconds.
In this case, i dont even get past the main menu because it takes 10 minutes too just get the cursor on the right button.lol

When the screen is glitching or whatever, in that case there are also times that i cant see even good enough to make a choice on the main menu.

anyways, ill have all that info soon.

ok

i installed the stuff you said and its all set.
heres the info you wanted (what i could get anyway)

model GA 6wmm7
model version - 4.1
graphics card manufacturer/model name- couldnt see on the board. (but this would be intel810 right?)
video ram - 4mb (onboard) (32mb new card)
PC RAM 320mb
driver version(graphicsonboard)-4.13.01.3004

direct X - 8.1

ps. when i restart, at the first black screen where i am supposed to see the bios version or whatever, it says 2.15. But its for the new card, not the onboard.

also, incase i didnt say it already,
in my device manager, i have the new card uner display adapters, an everything seems ok with it.
I also have the intel graphics controller under display adapters. ( i have put a check in "disable in hardware" for the intel. And it has a red X to the left of it.) But if i try to remove it, it will just re-install next time i start my comp.

just a note:

if I go to my device manager, and go to the properties of the Intel controller, then to resources, and to configure manually, this is what it says under "conlicts"

Memory Range 00000000 - 03FFFFFF used by:
3D Prophet 4000XT PCI
Memory Range 00000000 - 03FFFFFF used by:
System board extension for ACPI BIOS
Memory Range 00000000 - 0007FFFF used b
