I Tried to re-install my windows 98 program....then it wouldn't let me even into windows or any other thing. I then put in the rescue diskette. It tries to load and then comes up with A:

It also when trying to install Windows 98 says to me;

"If you have HPFS or NTFS you must create MS-Boot partition. If you have Lantastic server or superstor compression disable it before running setup. See Setup.txt on setup disk 1 or the windows 98 compact disk. "
I have no idea what any of that means. I Know that now when I restart my computer it tells me to put in the boot disk so when I do then it brings me up to the A: again.
I typed in A: setup then it just sends me to installing win 98, which in return sends me to "if you have HPFS etc......
I am desperate and don't have a clue what to do now. Any help I will be eternally greatful.

Thanks so much.

I am sorry. This is my first time to ask for help and I'm not sure how to go about telling you what I need to know.
My computer won't even load the windows program. I just want it to be up and running. As it stands now the screen is blank and still continues to not load Windows 98.

I hope this will help. If not I am truly sorry. I'm doing the best I can.

No Problem! So lets take it one step at a time.

When you turn the computer on does anything show up on the monitor?

When I turn it, it starts loading....then it comes up insert system boot diskette in drive. then hit enter.

I did that.

Then it comes up with A:

I typed in Setup

it then attempts to install Windows 98

then it comes back up with the message I stated in the first paragraph.

I hope this helps. Thanks

Here you go

Your drive is corrupted here. You will have to FDISK the drive, create a new partition and reformat the drive. Then re-install Win98. Are you familiar with the FDISK procedure?

Is this a brand name machine like Compaq or Hp?

Or is it a home built type?

Have you ever messed with the bios configuration?

what the group is trying to say is ...lets find out who makes the HARD DRIVE...then go to thier support page and download and run the diagnostics...open the case and see if you can read the drive from the lable on it...while your in their make sure all cable, wires and cards are seated... What "program" caused this problem in the first place...
