Hello,

2 days ago I bought Verbatim 2TB NAS with Gbs ethernet and connected it to Cisco Catalyst 2970 Gigabit switch.
When I log in to cisco CP, monitoring tools shows that connection with NAS is 1000 Mbps, but file transfer speed is only 9-11 MBs per second (screen 1 and 2).
This means that connection is 100Mbs, right?

So, how can I fix this, what is the problem with this NAS.
I formated it from ext2 to ext3, nothing has changed, then restored it.

Please help fix the problem.

Verify the speed and duplex in the switch. If you left it at Auto, it may have defaulted to a slower speed. The best solution with Cisco switches, is to hard set the speed and duplex as AUTO is confused by many PCs and PC devices.

I set it to manual but still same problem.

While I was waiting answer, I found another switch, D-Link Giga (not smart one) and tried it out and still its 100Mbps, I think theres something wrong with NAS not switch or cable (CAT 6),

Still looking for help :(

see the screen in the first post.

switch is set to give every port maximum speed automatically and I changed it to manual 1000/Full.

so I think its not switches fault.

There is nothing wrong with your port settings. They are at gigabit. There is nothing wrong, from what has been reported, concerning the nas unit.

The weakest link in the chain are the hard drives. You are also in error concerning "This means that connection is 100Mbs, right?" Sorry but that is incorrect.

Bandwidth [1000mb] is how many lanes on the freeway. How fast the cars go depends on where they start from and where their distination is. If you can only send two cars at a time from the hard drive it does not matter if you have 10 lanes free on the freeway. You can only use two lanes.

I meant only file transfer speed.

So what should I do? or it should be like that?

Start point and dest. point both are connected with gigabit. Still it's slow. (10 times slower, then it should be.)

And should I do with hard drivers? here is screen \/

I think the main point is that you are expecting too much speed. What wanderer is saying is that your network is set up correctly, but your hard drives are bottlenecking your speed. So, the only way to increase speed when transferring data from hard drives to different computers is to upgrade your hard drives. If you want the fastest possible transfers, upgrade to expensive but very fast solid state drives.
