This will be my first build, could someone check to see that everything is compatable and/or make recommendations. Also, would the onboard graphics be suitable for hooking up straight to an HDTV to display HD cable through media center and playing 5.1 audio?

My opinion, go with a different brand of Mobo (Asus or Gigabyte). Nvidia makes high quality graphics cards but they do not manufacturer the Nvida Mobo's.
Everything else looks fine. I would also add a graphics card for and HTPC.

Ok thanks for the advice. I'll look for a mobo without onboard graphics and a separate graphics card. Any recomendations for a gpu? Also, if the mobo has onboard audio, will it send the audio via hdmi through the gpu?

After reading many reviews on HTPC builds, the consensus is that 780 or 790 chipset motherboards would appear best suited for this purpose due to the very good on board graphics and lower operating temps. Therefore no need for additional graphic card and hence less heat and fan noise.

Whilst I don't want to refer to another web site, I do believe the inforamtion posted in relevant to your query, so here's the link - sorry admins:

The other thing to help with low heat and fan noise is this CPU due to low wattage:

Hope this helps

Oh, and here's my thread on this site relating to similar build with answers relating to Dolby TureHD:
