HP ze4700 LCD PROBLEMS

994 Views 6 Replies 2 Participants Last post by  tomfixit
A guy came into our computer club to see if anyone could have a look at his HP ze4700 laptop and maybe get it fixed - when the laptop is turned on and as soon as it boots the LCD has a wide upside-down L-looking problem on the screen.

I hooked it up to an external LCD monitor and it looked perfect - what I need to know is what is wrong with the laptop LCD screen - could it be the HP LCD screen itself or is there another problem elsewhere like an inverter or something ?

I don't want to open it up until someone replies here with an answer or two to this problem.

Could be the LCD assembly... usually if you get distortions or weird colors on the screen but not on an external monitor... most often it is the LCD assembly. If it is dim, it could be the inverter or the backlight.
If it is very dim, it may be the backlight (part of the LCD) or the inverter dying. I am not so sure about compatibility of inverters (esp. with your brand of LCD assembly), but I think they should be the same/similar/compatible because we are talking of the one model of laptop alone.

One test I have in mind is to put back the old LCD. Yes, distortions on the screen display may be present as it is the original problem but may be the brightness of the screen will give you an idea if it is the inverter (this is assuming the old LCD has good backlight).
