Hi,
This is an older HP Pavilion Notebook ZE 1230 (20GB HDD). Couldn't get a clean OS install using HP's recovery disk set. I have ran fdisk and deleted all partitions and created one new partition on this old IBM 20 GB HDD. I then retried the recovery disk set and installed the OS. Windows XP booted to the Windows splash screen where the progress bar was showing and froze, eventually received a blue screen indicating a stop error. I downloaded the HDD utilities from Maxtor and created a bootable CD to run diagnostics in an attempt to write zeros to the HDD only to find during the low level format that the Maxtor utility indicated the the HDD was failing.

Here's my question. This notebook has an old IBM 20GB HDD with an ATA-5 interface. I am wondering if the following HDD with an ATA-6 interface would plug into this computer. Both the old and new HDD's would run at 4200RPM:

Hitachi / TravelStar 4K120 / 40GB / 4200 / 2MB / 2.5" Mobile / OEM / Hard Drive

Thanks,
Keith R
