I installed this on an evaluation version of Windows XP Home Edition with Service Pack 2, following the HP Quick Start guide to the letter, and everything worked. I have since performed a clean install of a new version of Windows XP with SP2, and am going through the process of installing the printer again. However, every time I reach the screen telling me to connect the USB cable, I connect the cable, and the Add New Hardware Wizard runs, thus not allowing me to complete install.
I followed the instructions following the Add New Hardware Wizard pop-up, I clicked Cancel, and disconnected the USB cable, then allowed the HP PSC 1310 Series setup disc to roll back the installation so I could start again. I have made sure my USB drivers are up-to-date as well as Windows Update. I have removed any traces of HP in Program Files and Common Files, and replaced InstallShield in Common Files. The same problem continues to occur. Everything else on my system works fine as it did before aside from the printer.
The main error that occurs is when I do run the Microsoft Add New Hardware Wizard, an error shows when trying to install USB Printing Support, something to with the INF.
Anyone have any ideas? I know a few people have said that HP installation programs are buggy, but this is the 3rd HP PSC I've owned (another 1315 and a 1350) and this is the first time I've come across this problem or any problem during install.
Thanks for your time!
