One likely and common cause of those symptoms is that there is an ink-blockage in the print head (if left unused for too long, ink within the print head can dry out, leaving a "plug" of ink residue, so fresh ink can't get through from the cartridge).
Try running the nozzle cleaner process in the printer driver several times. if that doesn't clear the blockage, buy some alcohol-based solvent, remove the cartridges, then put a few drops into the little hole under where the cartridge sits. Leave overnight.
Next day, replace cartridges and print off a few colour documents to get fresh ink flowing again.
