When i try to scan a document into my computer, an error message comes up on my printer saying usb cable not connected. Please help..

Did it work before?
If its a new install,
Generally when you install something USB you need to put the drivers in before plugging it in or else it will try to install the drivers that windows want.

There have been printers that say that and require a download patch to fix it.
