hi there,
I have a month old HP Pavillion dv9000 which displayes an erratic display just after password input on startup. When this happens I am forced to make a force shut down since the computer is non-responsive and the only thing visible on the screen is a kaleidoscope of erratic colours.
This happens only once, usually after the laptop has been off for a while, and does not happen again the second time when i switch on again a minute later. The display shows no signs off problems when the computer is running.

I went to the store where I purchased the laptop and a technician said that he suspects a software problem. He suggested that I re-install vista by pressing F11 upon startup.
I did so to no success.

Can anyone offer some help?

A month old. The Tech should fix it, not you. Surely it's under warranty?

It is under a year's warranty.
He said that if it's a software problem, i'll have to pay for it....isn't that wierd?! I paid good money for a brand new laptop!

if you reinstalled Vista then is not a software problem. is a hardware problem, i have the same problem tell me if you find a solution. if it bothers me long enough i will send it to be repair be the company. it has a warranty. good lok

That's a boatload of crap. Demand they fix it !
