HP Pavilion won't power up. Deploying soon. need ideas ASAP

I have an HP Pavilion dv5000. A few hours ago I was working on it and it shut off on me. I had it plugged into the wall. Now when I try to turn it on the lights under the buttons will flash and it makes a helicopter sound. This will last for a few seconds and I have to hold the power button for a little bit for it to do this. I talked to the HP tech support and they had me try something to discharge the static that involved holding the power button for 2 minutes. This made no changes. The person said that I need to send it in th them. This is not an option. I am leaving for Iraq in a couple days, and if I did send it in there is no way they can get it back to me. I am thinking about taking it to the repair shop tomorrow but before I do that I would like to see if anyone has any ideas as to what may have happened and what may fix it.

clarification what were you working on? was it a repair of something or just doing normal computer stuff?

normal stuff. surfing, checking email, etc. A few hours prior to it shutting off I blew all the dust out of it wit a can of air but I didn't take it apart to do it. And like I said there were several hours between the 2 events.
