bigfrank - I had a similar problem on my HP this week. Here's what worked for me.
1-Turn off the PC with the card in the slot (don't just restart, SHUT IT DOWN).
2-Unplug the power cord
3-Hold the START button for 5 - 6 seconds and release
4-Reinsert the power cord and restart the PC with the card in the slot.
All reader slots reinstalled and all was well - for me. Be sure to let us know if this works for you. I found this solution buried in a HP website.
Thanksw for the response,
Did what you said but did not fix it. This happened once bdfore and hp tech support helped me fix it...i guess some files are corrupted that let the pc know that the card is there. I believe what you did might have reloaded the drivers but since the hardware is not recognized it did not work.. i still can use my camera and the usb ports in the back...just a convience.
Would be great if someone knew how to hack the files from the restore partition of the hard drive. If i resotre i'm sure it would fix it...but that means staarting all over buuilding my hard drive.....
