I got my hands on an HP NC4010. It doesn't boot up at all. The only thing that happens is that the battery LED blinks amber 9 times. Or it could be 8 short blinks, one long blink. Not really sure.

I get the feeling that this is some kind of BIOS code, like the beeps on a desktop. But I can't find any info on if these ARE codes and, if they are, what they mean.

I should also note that I pulled the HD out and formatted it. But the same LED codes blink with or without the HD. I have also noticed that there is no RAM module in the, what I believe to be, the expansion slot.

Anyone have a spare clue?

Thanx

Thanx for the fast reply.

I'll check that now and get back ....

Yes, there is a memory module under the keyboard. I reseated it. Still got the same error code/blinks. I pulled it from the slot and placed it in the second slot on the bottom of the laptop. Still the same error code/blinks. I even pulled it completely and got the same error code/blinks..

I am thinking maybe the memory module might be bad? I just wish I could confirm what those error blinks mean, if they do in fact mean anything.

Thanx again...

Thanx for the assistance.. Yea, I have tried every possible permutation of error bios blink codes with no luck..

I have also noticed that when powering up the CPU fan doesn't spin at all. But the HD light DOES come on.. I tried reseating the CPU with no luck..

I guess it's time to start swapping parts..

Thanx again.

Yes I did...

Yea, there is absolutely no fan activity whatsoever.. Not even a little lurch. The only indication that power is being applied is the blinking Battery LED and the momentary green HD LED...

I should also note that it does the same thing, regardless of whether or not it is on AC or Battery...

Hate to ressurrect an old thread, but I just got ahold of another laptop. Exact same model with nearly the exact same problem.

The only difference is that instead of 8 short blinks and one long blink, this laptop has just 8 short blinks..

This just can't be a coincidence..
