Hi
i have a HP multifunction color laser printer
in the office which is connected to the
local area network.

i have a new pc which is 3-5 metres
from this printer & i want to connect
a USB cable direct form my new
pc to this printer,
without using the local area
network or going through the
server print spooler.

is this possible ???

Recommended max length for a usb cable is 5 metres for devices which are powered separately (ie powered from the mains, not through the usb cable), so 5 metres should be fine for your printer.

You can even buy so-called "Active" USB cables now which are even longer but without any performance loss (it's claimed anyway).
