Greetings phoneman007, :welcome: to TSF.

My research says the your HP LaserJet 4000N Printer will in fact work with Windows 7; however, I cannot find any reference for it working with Windows 8.
I would therefore presume that it will not function with Windows 8, because this O/S is new and many companies have not created Drivers for it as yet.
You will have to download the Driver for the Printer from Windows Update (in Windows 7 only).
Hope this information helps.

Kind Regards,

Dave thanks.
I have looked up the HP site to see if I can verify whether or not it is supported by Windows 8. My model is LaserJet 4000n and the Serial No is NLQQ020695. But I find that the HP site will not recognise this combination of data. Have you any suggestion how I can get a definitive answer. I will in the meantime try to chase down the answer with Microsoft.

Hi phoneman007,

I have extensively researched your Printer model at the HP website here in Australia, and it is not compatible with Windows 8.
This would be due to the age of the machine; it has been around since Windows 3.1; perhaps it has reached the end of its life with Windows®, or there are no Windows 8 Drivers available.
The only way to determine the availibilty of Windows 8 Drivers, would be to connect the Printer to a Windows 8 machine, and go to Windows Update to see if they have one.
If a Driver is not available; then, you'll just have to use it on Windows 7, or (dread the thought) replace it with one that is compatible with Windows 8.

Kind Regards,
