HP Laptop repeatedly getting blue screens?!?!

1219 Views 9 Replies 2 Participants Last post by  reventon
Hey,

So I got an HP 6735b laptop from my college when I enrolled a year ago, and it's been fine for the most part until it started having a problem with the volume. I'd turn it on and either the volume up/down touch keys would be "stuck" so the volume would be maxed or lowest. I contacted HP, they said to reseat the switch cover, which I did. Ever since I did this, I've repeatedly gotten blue screens when either playing games, watching videos on youtube, or even with the computer idle while I'm watching tv. I did contact HP but their support is really slow, so I was hoping someone here could give me a little help.

When I was inside the laptop, I made sure to only touch the necessary components, didn't touch, poke, or prod at anything.(volume is still screwed up too, thanks Hp.) :sigh:

Hey Reventon,

Thanks for the reply and I'm sorry I'm replying so late.

Here are the zip files you asked for(probably should have checked around to see if that post you linked was stickied).

Hi,

All Bugcheck code 0000010E, meaning that it is a graphics error (obviously, as it happened under high graphics load according to what you said in post #1).

Code:

The above is your graphics driver. I know that there have been updates this year so look for one here: http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/Pages/index.aspx

Then, if you still get the BSODs when you update the driver, run a Graphics Stress test:

FurMark Setup:
Download from here: http://www.ozone3d.net/benchmarks/fur/
- If you have more than one GPU, select Multi-GPU during setup
- In the Run mode box, select "Stability Test" and "Log GPU Temperature"
Click "Go" to start the test
- Run the test until the GPU temperature maxes out - or until you start having problems (whichever comes first).
- Click "Quit" to exit

Hrm the thing is... for some reason NONE of the newer Ati drivers work with my graphics card. Anything past the version I have just doesn't install a driver and I haven't been able to find a working one online =/ . I've seen numerous posts on other forums about people having the same problem. Could this be the reason I'm getting the bsod's?
Have you tried installing the later drivers in Safe Mode?
Yeah I have.. I also just tried doing it again with all the newer versions(there's like 6) and they all start "installing" but then close out. I'm getting the feeling I need to replace this thing >< .
Run the Graphics Stress test.. see if it crashes within a few minutes.

I managed to finally find a working driver from this year so I installed it and ran the stress test. It went for about 18 minutes before I closed out(hope this was what I was supposed to do). I didn't find any temperatures while running the program though, I hit the T key for the temperature/graphs to come up but it wasn't doing anything o.o
Did you make sure you select the "Log GPU Temperature" option?
- In the Run mode box, select "Stability Test" and "Log GPU Temperature"
Click "Go" to start the test
Given that it ran for 18 minutes without error I think we can call that a pass.

Let us know how it goes with the new driver.
