Have you assigned the printer a static IP or are you using DHCP? If you are using DHCP, then the IP may change periodically...which can lead Windows to see it as a new printer.
HP C7250 network help
Have desktop and laptops on windows 7, wired and wireless network. HP all in one is hard wired to router, computers will at times install serveral copies of the printer for no reason and then we can no longer print.
we uninstall all printer copies then have windows fine it by IP on the router then we are good for a few days. then the cycle of printer hell starts again !

we do run DHCP so I will look into setting up printer with static IP address and see what happens.

After installing the printer, please open the services.msc. Please disable the service that says Network Device Discovery, that makes the copy.
