How to recover data from two raid configured hard drives?

I have a 1TB Iomega external hard-drive, comprised of two 500GB drives. So it has a raid configuration to appear as 1TB. Well the enclosure nolonger provides enough power to spin the drives, it only provides enough power to light the small LED on the enclosure. I made sure the drives still work, because I went to Micro-Center and bought a Sata to USB kit, and the individual drives start spinning when connected to power and they even show up in Windows XP, so I know the drives can still be read. Only problem is, Windows XP can't read the drives individually without a raid controller, and thus, Windows XP tells me to reformat the drives. Now I don't want to lose the data on the drives so I don't want to reformat just yet. Can anyone help me out with how I can get XP to view the files so I can back them up on another drive or how I should approach this. Thank you

The drives would both need to be connected at the same time and you will need enough free space (or a third HDD) to write the data that you want to save.

I forget the application that you will need to use, I'm sure someone will chime in with the proper app.
