Hello everyone.

I'm looking for a way to make it so that my computer only plays the sound when the earphones are plugged in. Regularly, if there's sound available and the volume is not muted, the sound will play without the earphones, and then when they get plugged in, the sound stops being played through the speakers, and only plays through the earphones themselves. Fine. However, I'd like to avoid that, say, I accidentally un-plug the earphones while listening to some music, and it echoes everywhere in the house in the middle of the night before I can mute the sound/re-plug-in the earphones.

So, is there a way to keep the main speakers of the computer indipendent from the earphones, so I can mute the ones, and turn on the others?

Go to CONTROL PANEL -> HARDWARE & SOUND -> select your system sound (ex. Smart Audio) you will have two options CLASSIC and MULTI-STREAM. You need to select CLASSIC

Uhm...could you please add some screens? My computer is in a different language from English, and although I can understand this speech, the translations of menus are often confusing.
By the way, I use Windows 7 as OS.

First, thanks for the answers.

My computer is a laptop, but I don't know where I could check the exact model >.< It's a normal notebook like any other.

I've tried to do something with the content of the linked page, but unfortunately when I open the volume control, it only mentions the speakers, although the earphones are plugged in. The volume seems to be just the same for both, and the only difference is where it comes from: from the computer case if there's no earphones plugged in/from the earphones if they're plugged. I'm looking just for something which can separate the two things.

Update or reinstall the audio drivers. They should be available from the laptop manufacturers website. By default, the internal speakers should shut off when headphones are detected. Two possible causes, the drivers are corrupt or there is a hardware (audio chipset/connectors) fault.
