how to move a program to a different partition

ok I have a 15 gb partition for my c drive and its 14 gb full without any junk on it. well I have sims 3 and some other programs that are installed on the c drive. can I move the game to a partition d and change the shortcut and delete it off the c drive will this still work. I need to save space to install sp3

The sims save game data is usually stored in C:\Documents and Settings\(username)\My Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3. If you copy this elsewhere, then you can uninstall The Sims 3 from one drive and reinstall it properly on the other. Then paste the folder back where it was to use the save data.

EDIT: The installer should ask you if you want to keep files.
