When I turn on the computer it opens with a black screen (before windows loads) and there are two options
. Microsoft Windows XP
. Microsoft Windows XP
(If I pick the 1st option windows load)
(If I pick the 2nd option in the list windows does not load)
In other words I believe the BIOS is asking me to pick one. I hit enter on the first option and windows loads right to the desktop. My question is how can I set the computer to automatically pick the first option so I do not have to manually?
This started after I reformatted the hard drive and reinstalled the XP Home OS

This computer is a Dell Dimension 2400 using a valid MS XP Home OS key.

It is like there is two installs of the OS but I do not believe so as when I reinstalled the OS I did a complete reinstall
Thanks for all help

Try this . . Click on Start . . Run . . type msconfig . . click on the Boot Ini tab and click on Check all boot paths . . if it comes back with one is invalid, click Fix invalid boot paths

Quick question: After I back up all important files (on this machine this is a brand new install so not much to save good thing) however after I try simpswr suggestion and something fails would a possible result be the computer will not boot into windows? Or if something fails I could just do a hard restart and it would return to the same?
