At startup, the XP install produces an error at the process to

Run DLL c:\windows\system32\atmqirlj.dll

How can this be deleted from startup?

Will HJT show it in one of those scans?

The dll described is not found either by googling a request or inspection of the install cd.

There was no advice in there.

he said that it is a random dll created.

The way for me to get rid of Vundo (if you read my other thread) was to get rid of Avast which is a trojan magnet.

I installed the most Recent AVG free and the system has been stable.

Anywhere Avast goes, problems follow. I was only using it because
AVG does not support Win2k.

So I'm going through another scratch install routine on Win2k.

I may have to move to XP on 2 machines but I like to have the Win2k in reserve.

The post advised you to follow the steps in the link that i have repeated below for you.(just click on the underlined link below)

http://www.techsupportforum.com/sec...read-before-posting-malware-removal-help.html

Getting rid of Avast will not cure Vundo. You need to run specialist tools (under guidance from an analyst unless you know exactly what you are doing) as described in the link below.

Well for now I have everything stabilized. I'm not used to having any of these problems. My computing tends to be malware free.

But on the original question about run Dll: This I have solved and
you can mark the thread-- I don't know how to.

I ran HJT. I saw the line where the instruction said to run the DLL
it couldn't find. The dll had a [,s] without the brackets after it. I asked HJT to fix repair. It deleted and my reboot was ok.

Better to mark it solved in a couple days.

I would not recommend using HJT to fix anything without the assistance of a trained analyst, HJT is a very powerful tool and can render your system useless if used wrongly.

This one I got away with. I'm not doing it every day. And there's a nice fresh backup disk I made yesterday just in case.

As a side note, I sent an HJT log in a while back and never heard anything
back. What's usual etiquette with that?

If you want to post your log in the HJT section, you should follow the five steps in the link given earlier and then post all the requested logs and a description of the problems you are having. (all the instructions are in the link given earlier)

I know there are lot of these to analyze and I've done the five step except I don't like to start up IE for the scans. so that has been a barrier for me.
I thought the only one posted is HJT. I re-read the current 5 step.
