Hello, I recently had problems with XP restarting a lot on my windows XP with SP1. So i reinstalled XP again, and this time I didn't install SP1, and so far i've had no crashes. So I'm thinking maybe the bug is with SP1. Now I would like to know is SP1 a necessity or is it optional to run a stable XP? Do I really need or will it be fine without it? Thanks

I read in PC World that SP1 did in fact have some kind of bug in it that slowed performance on some machines almost to a halt. I don't know whether or not it applies to your problem though.

And as far as the service packs go, it's like a BIOS update: if your computer runs fine, don't bother. Those "critical" updates for security reasons are a different story though, you'll want to download those.
