Acer Aspire 1350 with windows xp.

hi

I've inherited an old acer aspire 1350 that has seen better days, Battery only holds about 10 mins of charge but would like it just for the kids to use while it is plugged into the mains.

It ran fine aslong as it was plugged into the mains but since the hdd died and i replaced it it only seems to run off the battery even while plugged in.

i installed xp on the new hdd and downloaded and installed all available drivers from the acer website but i simply cant find a way to change the default power source from battery to mains powered, nor does it switch to mains power when the battery dies.

It doesnt turn on at all if booted with battery removed.

"Your Aspire 1350 series notebook computer
operates on battery or AC power"

Power lead etc is capable of charging the battery up to its 10 min capacity lol so assume leads are ok.

Assume a new battery would solve my problem but i dont want to put any more money into such an old machine and as it worked fine from mains before i put new hdd in it im assuming im just missing a simple setting. Im a total noob when it comes to laptops so any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Sarah

hi SarahConnor welcome to tsf,

do you have a volt meter or multimeter to check the voltage of the power coming from the adapter? do you know anyone that has a similar power adapter you could try to test it with.

Im afraid not. at least replacing the adapter would be a cheaper option than a new battery. Theres no setting you think i might be missing that makes it mains as default power? Cheers for replying
i personally have not seen that. a laptop should run on main only without the battery so it might be just an adapter problem.
