I know I want a Z370, I don’t understand why some of these mobos are more expensive than the others. Some seem perfectly fine and are under 100 dollars, while some are more than double this and don’t seem to have anything better about them.
What makes the ASUS ROG STRIX Z370-E GAMING more desirable/better than something like MSI Z370-A PRO,
One costs half as much. On my first build I got an MSI Z97 PC MATE, and I never had any issue, what is the real difference I am not seeing?

Features and the components used. For example, look at the power specs. Gaming and high end boards use better components and will often use more components to ensure more clean power is supplied. Features will also be different. The number and type of USB ports, the number of SATA ports, nvme slots, audio chipset used, etc.

Basically, they will both work. It boils down to what features and options you actually need. If the cheap board has everything that you need, then save yourself some money. Also, in my experience, the high end boards have a longer life span.
