your account its possibly hacked for using it to send spam .

first of all if you used that account as the verification for other online accounts , such as ebay , paypal , or anything important to you , you should reset the passwords for safety .

have you tried scanning with a malware removal program ?

Unless you kept a written record, or entered / typed your p/w onto a form on your computer, the password resides on hotmail's computer &, IF someone hacked into your account, their computer [ s]. If your browser [ IE, FF, Chrome ] is configured to save your password, your p / w is on your computer, but in an encrypted form.

I know that the hotmail p/w reset issue is tedious. It is designed to be tedious so that bad people [ people who want access to your email account, but are NOT YOU! ] cannnot use your hotmail account.

I wish I could be more helpful.

Don't know whether or not this will apply to you. My browser is Firefox and if I forget a password, I click on Tools>>>Options>>>Security>>>Saved passwords>>>Show passwords.

You need to contact Hotmail to get this resolved. This is not an issue of your computer being infected. Your Hotmail account got hacked. This is happening a lot right now with other services as well as Hotmail.

AdAware is not very good any more. It just hasn't kept up. I would not recommend it. It won't hurt, but it won't really help either, especially since this issue is not usually related to your computer being infected.

i am not sure about this , but usually to be able to hack an email account first you have to open an email with a mallware/spyware , that will watch your movement and steal you password . then will be able to log in your account and use it .

i am not sure tho ...

Not these days. I've seen it happen on new machines with no infections. There is such a thing as using brute force methods to acquire passwords, but usually this isn't even necessary. You'd be surprised how many people use simple dictionary words as passwords, or even how many simply use "password" as their password. Hacking into email accounts isn't difficult. If someone is using a good, hard password, they'll just go on to the next account.
