hot cpu

My AMD Athlon 64 3000+ socket 754 operates around 55c is this too hot for a normal load (not a full load) i put a notebook cooler to the side of the case vents managed to get it down a few degrees. The only fan i got is the cpu fan and heatsink, should i invest in a better cpu fan or more case fans like a pci fan? I know the weather is around 33c so i guess that doesnt help.

mine i have 1x 80mm intake on the side and 1x 120mm exhaust at the back my idle temp is 42-43 C
In addition to the cpu heatsink and fan, you should at the very least have one fan at the front of the case pulling in air and one fan at the rear blowing out....you'll have to check the case to see what size fans it has holes for. Adding a "better" cpu heatsink and fan without additional airflow will not improve anything....get some case fans, then see if you need a better cpu cooler......I don't particularly care for pci slot coolers, most of them are really loud and they don't move the air where you will need it to (from front to back)
