My next door neighbour has just installed a Virgin Super Hub and has 2 Homeplugs on his network. I have a Netgear router and 2 netgear homeplugs on my network, His network is giving my wireless router an IP address which changes my default gateway. Can I stop this by changing my default gateway and subnet mask? if so how and what to? Changing the default gateway on its own does not work.

You would only be getting connected wirelessly correct?

Changing your ip subnet won't make a difference. You need to have your wifi client configure to "forget" his wireless network.

I would also suggest downloading and running xirrus wifi inspector. Make sure you and he are not using the same wifi channel. Post a screen shot of xirrus so we can advise you on the best channel to use.

No this is via a homeplug network his router is changing my routers default gateway. Not wifi! I have never come across this before. I can log in to his super hub by typing in its ip address. Any wireless devices connect to my wifi but the default gateway is changed to his router?

as asked

sounds like its connecting to his router rather than changing yours

in UK - often houses are connected on different phases and should have a separate fuse box

as requested

the home hubs should work around a fuse box - so should not jump between homes

what type of houses do you have

who is your ISP ?

As a test disable the wireless connection and then see if it connects to your router thru the homeplugs.

Why would they be connected wirelessly when both are security enabled. I don't have the password. When I disconnect my homeplug my router retains its default gateway.

It maybe with wireless enabled that at some point you have connected to their router SSID and may be set to connect to that so disabling the wireless as a test should eliminate that so your wired connection to the homeplug should then work if configured correctly.

Please do the test and let us know.

Perception. You router never changes its gateway. Your pc isn't connecting to the correct router which is why the gateway changes.

It would be great if you answer etaf's questions. Thx
