Hi all!

First of all, excuse my lack of technical knowledge, it's partly the reason why I'm on here asking these questions :)

I bought 2x 1TB Hitachi Harddrives online a while ago. There the kind of HD's that u usually put inside Computers. I have an ICY Box USB hook up for it and I wanna use them as external Harddrives.

Now, I have tried to solve this problem for endless hours, using all kinds of tips from Tech Ppl online, with no success. I was close to getting it to work on my Windows Laptop, but I really wanna use them on my Macbook.

I don't know what the formatting of the drive is since I'm not getting that far.

My macbook is OS X 10.10
the ICY Box blue light is on when i plug it in.

I'd be so grateful for any kind of help.

Again sorry for my Newbish Tech Language.

(I don't know if this info will help at all, but my Verbatim 1TB HD won't work on my OS X 10.10 macbook, but works perfectly fine on an older macbook and on my windows laptop)

Sincerely
elharaldinho

Plug the ICY box into your Mac. go to Utilities/Disk Utility. Does the ICY Box HDD's show up on the left panel? If so, if you want to use it solely on a Mac and not on Windows, you can highlight each drive and go to the Erase tab and format them Mac OS X (journaled) If you plan on using the drives in Windows as well, and don't have any one file that is over 4GB's you can format it FAT (MS-DOS). If you deal in large files and want to share on a Windows machine, format it xFAT.

Does the ICY box have it's own power adapter? If so, be sure you are using it and plug it directly into the wall and not through a power strip. Put your ear next to the drive, does it sound like it is spinning up? If not, then there is an issue with the ICY box USB controller or the HDD itself. Attach the drive internally to a desktop computer or You can try another USB Adapter, Enclosure or Dock. If the drive doesn't spin up, it has failed.
