I have a HIS Hightech H487FN512P Radeon HD 4870 512MB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFire Supported Video Card and while fooling around with the clock settings to try to reduce fan noise, I turned the core clock to 500 mhz. ( the lowest that CCC lets you go) I wanted to turn the clock back up because i was noticing an affect on the frame rates while veiwing hd videos on youtube. when i change the clock settings only the memory clock changes, but when i hit test custom clocks it changes the core clock while it is testing but changes it back when i accept.
