Your HDTV is 780p which stands for 780 lines of horizontal resolution done in a Progressive way as opposed to Interlaced. Think of it this way: when the signal is sent to the screen it is made up of information in lines across the screen. Your TV has 780 of these lines. In the early days TV's would update the information in every other line then go back and update the ones it skipped - hence the tern interlaced. It happened so fast that your brain could not detect that only 1/2 the screen was being updated during a single pass. On a progressive TV each line is updated every pass. So you're getting more resolution .

OK so what does that have to do with computer monitors? Nothing really. Any 20" monitor you buy should be capable of displaying very high resolution pictures from your graphics card.
LCD panels made to be used as computer monitors often come in VGA, SVGA, XGA, UXGA, and WXGA formats. They can range from 640x480 resolultion to 2048x1563 and higher. To get the most from your 360 you'll want a display capable of 1920x1080 progressive, also known as 1080p. A monitor capable of 1280x720 is needed for mid-range HD display.
