Is it possible to hide the Recycle Bin on the desktop in XP without using third party software?

Or is there a reason that windows won't let this icon be hidden?

Seems ironic, but I have a similar problem with MAC OS X in that it too will let you hide all icons and tool bars except one. The icon for the system drive is always present and I have not been able to find a way to hide it either.

I don't know, maybe its all the years of looking at people's desktops with 57 shortcuts on them thats made me militant about keeping my desktop clean.

Maybe its because I run a Mac and a Pc side by side and like to look at the desktop I have split across the monitors.

Maybe it's just the challange of trying to see if it can be done.

Agreed, I like a clean desktop also. I've got the Recycle Bin down in the lower right corner and never pursued hiding it.

Found a page that lists some options HERE
