I have someone threatening my life on myspace. They have quoted my IP address and city. I am somewhat tech savvy, however, I have no idea how they do it on myspace. I have filed a complaint with their Customer Service personnel, however, is there a way to find out their IP address so I can contact their local law enforcement?

Its pretty bad I feel.

Don't worry. He can't do anything to you. He only knows the city because that's where the ISP has registered the IP. There is no way for the person to track you down.

The next step to take is to treat this seriously and contact the police department. From there, they can ask Myspace for information.

Since you have contacted myspace I would suggest two other things:

1 Contact your local police department

2 Contact a lawyer for legal advise

3 If they catch the person you will have to press charges no matter who it is.

I doubt if you will ever hear anything from it, but you never know.

As peter said just because they have your ip doesn't mean a hole lot. I imagine that you have a dynamic ip anyways, so don't worry too much. It might just be some kid trying to scare you.

ThorXP, if you contact your local PD they won't be able to do a lot for you. Unless this person starts to send you emails, or threatens you in someway with harm then they're hands are pretty much tied. You can contact a lawyer if you want, but that could just cost you money for nothing, unless, like I said you start getting harassed or threatened.
