I have an HP 2133, running Windows XP. I recently installed avast! antivirus, and used it to run a pre-boot scan (is that what it's called?) to get rid of some viruses that wouldn't go away. This wound up making my computer not start up, at least in regular mode. So I started it up in safe mode, opened the avast! vault, and moved everything back. The computer started up fine, but now doesn't have the wireless internet connection that it had before, and I can't get it to set up a new one. I thought it was a driver issue, but I tried downloading a driver from the HP website and installing it, and it didn't help. Any thoughts?

And just to complicate things, I tried running System Restore to fix it. It didn't, but it did remove avast!, so now I can't get to that vault anymore. :embarased

open device manager and look for any icons with an ! or ? next to them if so post back what it is. Open command prompt and type ipconfig /all and post back the results. Let us know if the wireless adapter shows up in the network connections.

ipconfig result:

An internal error occurred: The request is not supported.

Please contact Microsoft Product Support Services for further help.

Additional information: Unable to query host name.

And no, the wireless adapter does not show up in the network connections.

We had out Microsoft Tem Miniport Apadpter #2 Stop working, preventing any wireless connection. My daughter hooked up an external wireless adapter (about $30-40 at Office Depot) and the internet was able to connect again. I had spent a lot of time downloading drivers and restoring the system to when it was working properly, but nothing worked. This was a pretty cheap fix.
