Help with upgrading to GeForce 8800GT

Have an HP m8100n with one available PCI-e x1 and one available PCI-e x16 slots. Wanting to upgrade to GeForce 8800GT but all the video cards I find at Newegg, for example, show that they are PCI-e 2.0 x16 cards. Do they still make just PCI-e x16 cards? Will the 2.0 cards work in my computer? Also, need to upgrade my PSU. Will one with 550 watts be sufficient? Thanks for the help.

Welcome to tsf. You better stick to a pci-e 1.0 card if your not sure. Pci-e 2.0 cards only work in pci-e 1.1 slots or 2.0 . If your pc does not have the 1.1 revision it will not work. So you might be safer going with a 1.0 card.

Also you will need a quality power supply 600w or higher (550w not enough) with 26 amps on the 12v rail. Stick to brands like antec , thermaltake , and corsair. Its should cost you a minimum of 60 to 70$
