Welcome to TSF:

I would search ebay / and dont be afraid to buy used componets ~~~ thats were the deals are on upgraded parts / I personally have built many machines from used parts upgraded by die hard gamers / those guys drop really good parts as soon as the new latest and greatest comes out.

The trick to ebay is buying ONLY from someone who has 300 and above sales transactions and a very high feedback rating ~~~ 98.5% and above / stay clear of the low transaction numbered sellers and the ones who just changed their name.

I would opt for the 478 socket motherboard with 800mhz fsb

a few of these for under a $100.00 would be:

abit IC7 & IC7G
asus p4P800- sereis there are several P4P800 boards (for the money i like the P4P800-E delux)

Intel procesor 2.8 and above with HT ~478 pin~ 800mhz

somebody else could pop in here and give the AMD alternatives

You can probably get away with spending $200.00 on a used mobo and P4 CPU as Linderman described. However you will need to feed it with a good quality PSU or it will have issues.

Add about $100.00 for a good PSU such as an Antec or Enermax at 450 watts or higher.

Most PC cases (Unless very high end) that come with a PSU are not going to deliver the power you need.

Decent choices...so much for the CPU/MB budget :deveous:

I would recommend a BenQ 1640 or NEC 3540 over the Samsung, not that the Samsung is bad, but the others are much better... they are the best!

Also with the case, don't expect that power supply to last more than a day or two(if that  ) so you might wish to budget for an Antec or Enermax or Seasonic PSU of 450W or more up front...it will be money well spent in the way of many saved headaches.

Okay, thank you for the tip. I will make a choice of the two cd-rom drives. The PSU, I know. I was going to buy a 500W from a computer store here. Thanks though for the help.

So the part sI chose are pretty good?
