Help with Partitioning!!

702 Views 1 Reply 2 Participants Last post by  92b16vx
I recently installed Windows Xp service pack 1 over mu current service pack 2 due to my sp2 not being genuine! (oops)! During this process i somehow managed to create a partitioned hard drive so i now have a C: and a D: drive.

This seems to have made my system really slow and things aren't working as they should be.
I've read that you can remove a partition but i'm not great with computers and i think i might make things worse if i try and attempt that.

Would wiping my hard drive clean get rid of the partition and would anybody recommend this?

Thanks in advance

If you are going to reformat than back up anything you don't want deleted first. Then it is a simple amtter of reinstalling Windows. When you get to the point of selecting where you want to install, be sure to delete the extra partition, then reformat the full disc, and install.

Another route would be to use Patition Magic and delete the extra partition, and then merge it back to your original install, however, since I do not know exactly what the service pack install did, or why it created another partition, I would advise caution when doing this if you haven't backedup you data first. Of course you should ALWAYS back up things you don't want lost before doing ANYTHING tha thas to do with moving, resizing, merge, deleting, etc...partitions.
