Hey, im pretty new to this forum and i need some help. Well recently, my computer has some strange lines on the left side of the screen, and a large black dot near the bottom. I don't know what the problem is or how it happened, i tried restarting my laptop but its still there. I am using Windows 7, 64 bit on an Acer Aspire 4736ZG. The stripes also get in the way of the start button. I would post a screenie, but it's on the monitor itself and print screen doesnt capture it. :sigh:

My guess is you need a new monitor. It could be a motherboard problem though too.

Try replacing the monitor, or if you have a PC you can connect to, try connecting the laptop to the PC and switching your display to the PC monitor. If the lines appear on the PC monitor, your problem will be motherboard related.

It could also be the video drivers or the video chip on the motherboard. I would look at the drivers first.

Hybrids, if you attach an external monitor to the laptop, do you see the same problem?

Thanks for the manual joeten. :) Oh and Esphatto, i will try connect it to an old PC when i get home from a friends house.

I asked some of my friends what the problem is and they say the graphics card in my laptop is misplaced. Is this correct?

"Misplaced"....no. Faulty, possibly. This kind of issue can be caused by a problem with the monitor, the video cable, the graphics card, drivers, or motherboard, usually.
