Hi,

Ive been searching everywhere. Looking for an answer to my question and still i have not found anything. So maybe you guys can help.

I have been having trouble with my USB ports. Ive tried restarting my Hp Pavilion dv7-2173cl, uninstalling and reinstalling the hubs and family universal host controllers, downloading driver repairing software from Hp website, and posting on Microsoft Answers website.

My Problem: I have 4 total usb ports. One is also a Sata. Two, including the sata, are on the left side of my laptop and the other two are on the right.

The two on the left side work, kinda. When i have my ipod plugged in and it says "Do Not Disconnect" and i plug in another device, lets say my external hard drive, it will disconnect my ipod then reconnect it instantly. After this both device work fine.

The two ports on the right side do not read anything when i have something plugged in. For example, ill remove my hard drive(which works on the left side) and plug it into the right. My computer does not detect that anything is plugged in.

I am at a loss for what to do.

Another thing i noticed is that in device manager it shows i have 8 Intel(R) ICH9 Family USB Universal Host Controller - all with different number and letter combinations. An example is 2934; 2935; 293A; 293C. And i have 8 USB Root Hubs. And one unknown device and one USB Composite Device.

I have no idea what the unknown and composite devices are because they show up even if i have nothing connected to the computer. Also every once in a while a message will popup saying a device could not be read properly when i havent connected anything to the laptop.

Any ideas as to what is going on?

Thanks

Rook
