I have an IBM Thinkpad with xp software. I have noticed a sigificant decline in speed of computer; i have tried defrag and to download freeware for pc optimization without success ie pcpal and regcure. any advice for finding free software?

as you load more stuff on the harddrive the computers run slower

Hi. Try running the scan http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner and also run http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html

Between the two of them it should clean the junk off of your system.
