Hi there,

Is there a simple explanation on setting up a simple connection between 2 computers using crossover cable?
I have looked to find answers and all I'm finding even on YouTube is videos showing changing setting in network connections putting a ip addresses, changing folder sharing setting etc etc.

This is what I'm looking for.
1. Obviously connecting 2 computers using crossover cable
2. Configuring ' some settings' on both machines (having data on a win7 machine and accessing them / transferring to a Ubuntu machine)
3. Perhaps vice versa (transferring data from win7 to Ubuntu)
4. Would certain setting apply to same oses? Win 7 to win 7, Linux to Linux , Xp to xp

All I want are plain and simple answers that I need for a basic network setup. A couple of websites only show turning on sharing settings, turning discovery on etc.

Thanks guys

physical connection: connect the two pcs nics with the crossover cable

Network connection: assign ip addresses/subnet masks to each in the same subnet so they can talk via tcp/ip

logical connection: configure sharing on both and share something. This may require a smb server on ubuntu [samba] but I am not a nix guy.
