Hey guys... I need some help with the following situation:

I have a Q6600 processor on a Gigabyte P35C-DS3R motherboard. as you remember this is a hybrid motherboard that supports DDR2 and also 2 slots of DDR3 up to 1333mhz [fsb 1333]. also a OCZ vertex 60gb SSD but doesnt matter for my questions i guess.

so, i would like to get 4gb of DDR3 ram and remove my current 2gb of ddr2 600mhz... at the moment i do not wish to replace MB \ processor [budget issues].

SO... Ive been wandering around eBay and I wish to get OCZ Reaper HPC DDR3, now the questions are:
[please answer when takin in mind my system: Gigabyte P35C-DS3R Motherboard + Q6600 2.4ghz processor].
---------------
1.
can I get triple channel and use only 2 sticks? cause im thinking in the future i will probably upgrade the MB \ CPU and i will add the extra stick for triple channel...

2.
so i was thinking about getting triple channel 1800 mhz and using 2 sticks at 1333mhz cause that is the MAX that P35C-DS3R supports...
will this work well? or should I go with dual channels and not think about the future? also, If I go Dual channel, can I get 1800mhz \ 1600 mhz versions and work them as 1333mhz?

3.
and final question: if I get dual, will I be able to get another 1 stick in the future and make it as triple channel? or this comes only as 1 pack?
------------------
answers to these will GREATLY help me... thank you so very much guys :)
It is great to have places like these to come to...

Dennis.

The sticks you want for that board will be higher voltage then the x58 Tri-channel set up they will be 1.5-1.65v you want 1.8-2.0v.

Yes you can run the sticks slower.

No the tri-channel needs to be matched and since your board and the x58 setup is different it's not really relevant.

You will not see a lot if any difference with a Q6600 from DDR2 800 to DDR3 1333 bench marks yes real world use no.

So i should probably save abit and get an x58 MB and core i5 \ i7 with the triple channel @ 1600mhz or so?

will my HX Corsair 520wat will be enough as a power supply? ive got the Vertex and 2 HD's also... [500gb and 320gb]

i5/i7 8xx goes on the 1156 socket P55 board(dual channel) i7 9xx goes on the X58 board.
Vertex what?
Your not going to see a large improvement from your setup to the current I would wait at least another year unless you have to have the latest and greatest then go for the i7 870 or i7 950 and DDR3 1600

okay. so I just wanna upgrade my 2gb of DDR2 to 4gb.

so: 4gb DDR2 @ 800mhz or 4gb DDR3 @ 1333 mhz? same price for me so that's not something to consider.

current DDR2 i have is 600mhz so i need to rid myself of it and get 4gb of what i mentioned above. which one then will be best? :)

Your best solution would be a matched pair of 2X2GB DDR2 PC6400.
