Help Please! "a disk read error occurred, press ctrl+alt+del to restart"

a few days ago my laptop started to display "a disk read error occurred, press ctrl+alt+del to restart" pressing those buttons would reboot and return to the same screen. For the first day or so while i was trying to recover my data, i was able to enter the bios to change boot order so i could boot from and Ubuntu live cd, By the time i managed to get ubuntu running (off the live cd) it was about 3am so i only got about 3.5gb of data from the computer before deciding to head to bed. I clicked on hibernate then shut the laptop lid. When i turned the laptop on this morning i find that the laptop isn't booting from the disk anymore but just skipping straight to "a disk read error occurred, press ctrl+alt+del to restart", so i restarted looking to get into the bios to check the boot order settings but i couldn't. The acer screen appears, this usually has "press F2 to enter setup" but no longer does. Pressing F2, F12 or F8 doesn't do anything and if i keep pressing them the computer beeps really loud.

PLEASE HELP ME!!! (if you could try not be be too complicated, i'm not a computer pro or anything)

THANKS.

Re: Help Please! "a disk read error occurred, press ctrl+alt+del to restart"

I had this problem with my desktop computer a few weeks ago.

All I did to fix it was clean my computer's insides with pressured air.

it sounds like the hd has gone past the point of recovery

if you remove the hard drive does it boot normally to the post screen and give you access to the bios
