Hey guys,

Was trying to do an update for a friend... forgetting that lenovo puts on onekey recovery when I tried to update his vista it restarted.. and now black screens after loading.

Now, I have tried a lot of stuff. I know microsoft has put out an update, but since I can not see the screen or even get into safemode (it hangs at crcdisk.sys...) Is there anyway to fix this without reformatting? I do not have his vista CD so this is kind of a problem..

Please help me figure out how to apply the update (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...g7ZBdXSQ==)

Or maybe figure out something else!

The hotfix - kb951618 was last reviewed in August 2008 and refers to updating to Vista SP1 -

Symptom 1
You are running a Windows Vista-based computer that has Onekey Recovery 5.0 installed. If you try to upgrade the operating system to Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (SP1) by using Windows Update or another method, you may experience a black screen issue after the computer is restarted.

Note: This issue occurs when the computer contains Onekey recovery software that is earlier than version 5.1. If the computer uses the Onekey recovery software version 5.1 or later versions, this issue does not occur.
What exactly were you updating the system with, e.g., Vista SP1?

See if you can boot using the recovery partition and try system repair or system install. Last resort is restore system to default settings (Vista reinstall). If you cannot access the HDD recovery partition, you'll need to order Vista OEM recovery DVDs from Toshiba.

sigh -.-... Thanks.. I might look around and see if I can get a Vista Recovery CD... Where should I go from there? Will a system restore get rid of the Black Screen?
