Need help,
I've to connect 2 building with fiber, for this I use 2 HP baseline switches.
How do I have to configure the 2 switches so that i can have PC connected to switch 2 able to "talk" with the server connected to switch 1 ?

Thank you.
Giovanni

P.S.
Running Fixed IP

I wish it was so easy...
but it's not.
I've connected the two switches, for testing, side by side with a fiber patch cable, both switches shows the link, but the pc connected to switch 2 does not make it to switch 1 (and server).
Must be something to setup in the switch, maybe GBICs must be "activated" ? or inserted in the default VLAN ?

should be in the default vlan by default.
You may need to designate the fiber port at a trunk but this is covered in the switchs manual.
using multimode fiber?
both ends lighting up?
what is the server ip and subnet mask and the same for the workstation?

this isn't a ebay purchase of refubished equipment is it?

I love hp switches and have worked with them for years. What is the make/model of the units you are using? Once I link to a manual perhaps I can get a better idea on how to advise you.

BTW you don't want to start anthing with vlans. Just basic connections which should work out of the box.
