It was doing updates last night and this morning it was configuring the updates at 15% and froze. It was about 20 minutes. Then I turned it off to restart (I did. That before when it would freeze up on configuring updates it worked) but now it freezes at startup right after that screen where it says "starting Windows" then it would show my mouse pointer on a black screen and freeze there. SOMEONE PLEASE HELP!

Startup Repair will attempt several remedial procedures including an extended disk check which can take hours to complete depending on how big the disk is, how much data is on it and it's health status. I advise you exercise patience and NOT forcefully turn it off. Let it finish whatever it's doing and sometimes more than one run of startup repair is required to resolve the problem.

Ok, I turning my computer off, and it's those same updates 14 stuck at 8. This really is annoying. There's no way of knowing how long these updates take, there's no way of knowing how long the configuring of the updates take when you turn it back on. There's go to be a better system than this. When there's an updates I want to know exactly how long it will take. This is redicules, I don't know if it's stuck, or just a long update, or maybe the internets out while it was trying to update. No way of knowing!!

Updates make your computer safer and run smoother. If an update is failing. Once you boot into Windows, go to Windows Update. Click on View Update History in the left panel. Find the update that has failed, write it down. Now Check For Updates, if it shows the Failed update, you can Right click it and choose to Hide the update, and Windows will not try to install it. Then go to Change Settings, take the drop down arrow under Important Updates and select Check For Updates but let me decide to install them or not. Or you can select a time of day that is best to install Automatic Updates.

The Malicious Software Removal Tool is part of Patch Tuesday and takes the longest to install so expect that. Be patient. You need the Updates.
