I received a virus after foolishly downloading a key gen. It edited regedit and disabled task manager, internet options, and system restore as well as deleting the restore points. I also noticed system pop ups come up telling me of suspected viruses on my computer. Some programs on my computer will not run for some reason like Online games and mIRC.
Internet explorer seems to be slower also.
I used Panda Antivirus 2007 and scanned many times and most of the effects of the virus are gone. Right now, I still can't run some programs and anything else I haven't noticed. I've been through so much things this week so in advance, Thanks for helping. Heres the hijackthis.log

Apologies for the delay in responding.

The workload on this forum is intense, and sometimes it is not possible to respond to every inquiry.

Please download SDFix
Also save it to the Desktop
Right click the SDFix.zip
Select: Extract All to extract it to its own folder

~~~~
Start the computer in Safe Mode :
  • When the machine starts, tap the F8 key before Windows appears
  • You are presented with a Windows XP Advanced Options menu.
  • Select the option for Safe Mode using the arrow keys.
  • Press Enter to boot into Safe Mode.
~~~~
Open the SDFix folder on the Desktop
  • Double click RunThis.bat to start the script.
  • Type Y to begin the cleanup process.
  • The process removes any Trojan Services or Registry Entries found, and then prompts you to press any key to Reboot.
  • Press any key to restart the PC.
  • When the PC restarts the SDFix will run again and complete the removal process
  • It then displays Finished
  • Press any key to end the script and load the Desktop icons.
  • Once the Desktop icons load, the SDFix report opens on screen and saves itself in the SDFix folder as Report.txt.

~~~~
Now, download ComboFix
Save it to the Desktop
Double-click combofix.exe to run the program
Follow the prompts.
(Don't click on the window while the program is running, it may cause your system to stall.)
When finished, a log, ComboFix.txt, is produced.
~~~~
Last, run HijackThis once again to obtain a new log.

~~~~
Please post the following in your reply:
The SDFix Report.txt
The ComboFix.txt
A new HijackThis
After running SDFix in Safe mode, my computer restarted and won't go past the Windows XP loading screen. I try the opions safe mode and normal, but it still won't let me get past the loading screen.
Please try the following:
Restart the computer.
To use the Registry information that was saved at the last shutdown, select:
Last Known Good Configuration
See if that gets it going...
The root of the current problem is that the system is infected with pervasive malware that injects its code into other running processes, and causes problems on reboot.
Do you have the Windows XP installation CD?
If so, restoring a Registry backup should fix the problem, but we would need the installation CD to use the Recovery Console.
If you do not have the installation CD, do you have access to another computer where you can download the Recovery Console and burn it to a CD?
Yes I do have a CD, but when I put it in after starting my computer, it says "Press any key to boot from CD..." so I pressed a key and it said "BOOT: Memory overflow error; Please insert another disk"
Other times when I boot my computer with the CD, I get a screen with no text and a blinking cursor. Other times I get the "Press any key to boot from CD" and when I press a key, nothing happens.
This is a Windows XP Professional SP2 CD that I've burned a while ago.
Looks as if there is something wrong with the CD.
Let’s go this route…
Please download the Recovery Console ISO image, and burn it to a CD.
Next, adjust the BIOS settings of the computer so that it boots from the CDROM rather than using the Hard Drive:
  • Start the computer, and look for something like: Press F2 to enter Setup
  • Press the key indicated by your computer
  • Once you enter the BIOS Setup, look for a Boot tab to change the boot order
  • The boot order will show something like: Hard Disk Drive, CDROM, Floppy Disk Drive
  • Select: CDROM or CD/DVD Drive (whichever is found in your PC)
  • Exit out of Setup and save the changes when you do
  • Turn off the computer
Some keyboard commands to Access/Enter Motherboard BIOS
Now, insert the CD that has the RC.ISO
Start the computer
It will prompt you to press any key to boot from CD
Press any key and it will start loading from the CD and show the following:
It will then show the following Menu screen:
PressR to Repair a Windows XP installation using the Recovery Console
Once it shows the above screen it will list the Windows installations and prompts you to choose which one you wish to logon to.
Type 1 and press: Enter
It will then ask you for the Administrator password, if you have one, type it, otherwise, without typing anything into that area, just press Enter.
You will arrive at the following prompt:
C:\WINDOWS>
Type the following at the prompt:
cd ERUNT\SDFIX
Press Enter to change the directory to the SDFix backup folder.
Then type:
batch erdnt.con
Press Enter to copy the backup files over the current files
Once it is finished type:
cd %systemroot%\system32
Press Enter and it will change directory to the system32 folder.
Then type:
copy userinit.exe ntos.exe
Press Enter, and then click Y if prompted to overwrite ntos.exe
Next, type Exit to quit the Recovery Console.
Now, adjust the BIOS so the computer boots from the Hard Drive again.
Restart the computer, and tell us how it goes.
The Recovery Console can be installed from the Operating System, but you need to be able to go to Start > Run, etc.
At this point, that is not an option, since you can't go past the Windows XP loading screen.
Do you have the original Windows XP installation CD?
Ok I burned it onto a CD, but no message about pressing a key shows up. This is after I set my CD Drive to boot first. I also tried turning off the others so it wouldn't boot anything else, but it didn't load the CD. I burned only the .ISO onto a Black CD-R.
I believe that the RC.ISO is an image that needs to be burn to a CD in a special way.
Download the Iso Recorder
Install it on a working machine and reboot.
Place a blank CD in the CD burner and then right click RC.ISO
Select: Burn to CD from the context menu.
You can use any CD burning program that supports ISO burning, but each is different and I cannot provide you info on how each program works.
Once done, place the CD in the non-working computer and reboot.
Note: There is another download site for
RC.ISO
Did you adjust the BIOS settings of the computer so that it boots from the CDROM rather than using the Hard Drive?
If this prompt does not appear, you need to change the boot order of your CD drive and hard drive in the BIOS.
Is there anything showing up on the screen?
Please answer the following:
1. When you mention the computer won't go past the Windows XP loading screen, is it a black screen, or a blue screen?
2. If it is the blue welcome/logon screen that hangs, do you see an option for Safe Mode with Command Prompt?
If you still have ComboFix on the Desktop, please remove it, and download a new copy: Here
Once again, save to the Desktop <<<IMPORTANT !!!
Now, go to Start > Run, and copy/paste the following command in the Open box:
"%userprofile%\desktop\combofix.exe" /killall
Example:
Click:OK
Follow the prompts to install.
Then type 1 and press Enter to begin the scan.
Do not mouse-click the ComboFix window while it runs. It may cause it to stall.
When finished, a log, ComboFix.txt, is produced.
~~~~
Run HijackThis once again to obtain a new log.

~~~~
Please post the ComboFix.txt, and a new HijackThis log in your reply.
